Don is the President of Facca Incorporated, a Canadian-based heavy civil engineering and contracting company that has been working across the province of Ontario on large-scale and complex construction projects for over 60 years. With over 40 years of experience in the construction industry, Don has always taken a keen interest in the scheduling process and its critical importance to the overall success of a project cycle. From the beginning of the Critical Path Method (CPM), Don was a major proponent of its utilization at Facca Incorporated. We started using software like Suretrak in the nineties and then moved on to Primavera and now Netpoint. The organization has significantly benefited from a scheduling-forward approach to contracting—our rigorous monthly schedules have helped keep our bid process, projects, and teams organized and mitigate contractual disputes, ultimately benefiting the corporation’s bottom line. Through years of experience and observation, Don has noted that the construction industry tends to focus too much on cost. This approach often leads to poorly executed contracts with late completions. In contrast, his perspective is that the overall completion cost will work itself out should the schedule be maintained. Over the years of working with PMCOS, Don has hoped to see more contractors utilize the group, and his overall objective as a fellow with PMCOS is to engage with other leaders in the construction industry to recognize the importance of scheduling.
